HAPPY NEW YEAR EVE!!

So I thought I would end the year off right and end it with a blog post. I was going to take a picture of the outside lights on the house or a couple of pictures of my favorite Christmas decorations that I haven't put away yet, but A: It's too cold to go outside and take a picture and 2, I've put away most of the Christmas decorations and I don't feel like getting out the big digital camera and messing with it tonight.

So I remembered one thing that I haven't told you all.....

All that studying and writing stupid papers that I haven't needed to know the information for the last 22 years and feeling SO OLD about going back to school.

I GOT 3 A's and 1 B....yep I'm still the dork nerd that I was in High School, just a little smarter then before...who would have guessed!!!!

Happy New Year everyone!!!!

Merry Christmas....a little late

So it sucks to have to take pictures the old fashion way and have to wait to see what they look like till you decide to download them from the camera. So needless to say that I didn't take many pictures this Christmas.

Our Christmas Day was really on Christmas Eve, and our Christmas Eve was really on Christmas Day...does that make sense? Well it does to me!!! Carl and Francine had to work on Christmas Day and didn't want to miss out on the new tradition going into its 3rd year now (or maybe 4th year) of Prime rib and Lobster.

Carl and Francine brought crab legs as well as bacon wrapped scallops to go with the other scallops that Mom and Dad brought. I had eaten too many appetizers by the time we sat down for dinner that I couldn't eat all of my lobster. But the next best thing is lobster for breakfast and Michael doesn't disappoint with that!!!

Its pretty sad that I didn't take any pictures of the Christmas tree or us opening presents. The only pictures I got were of the food. I did remember to take another picture of Carl with Bailey on his lap to match the picture from last year. You can see how much he has grown..Bailey that is!!!

I can't believe how much Brandy has grown in a month's time. She's huge compared to a month ago even if she only weighs 3lbs.

She loves to give kisses even if they are up the nose. She's a sweety!!!

I tried uploading a video, but its there in the post but not in the preview and I'm not in the mood to deal with it. So Merry Late Christmas....Hope Santa didn't bring you any coal!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRAMS

Wow I can't believe how the time flies by. I was going to do a post about Gram's dying and post some pictures but on top of not doing it, my camera broke and I have to take pictures the old fashion way and actually look through the view finder. So needless to say I haven't taken many pictures. This picture is from last Christmas of Gram and Carl. She got sick with a bladder infection the last week of September and died on the 14th of October.

These two pictures are of Kody and Emma entertaining us during Grandma's viewing in Long Beach. They would each get up and stand in front of the casket and sing a song and make us all laugh while we were waiting for the funeral to start.

This is at the graveside in Utah - unloading the casket to take to the grave. Happy 93rd Birthday Gram's!!!

Thanksgiving 2009 - Here is the table with all the food. We are so glad that we had family over because they took home a lot of the food. Even with two refrigerators we still didn't have enough room for all the leftovers!!!

Carl and Francine getting ready to eat!!! Man our eyes were way bigger then our bellys. We didn't even do dessert we were so full. After dinner we all crashed and had to take naps.

Meet the new edition to Carl and Francine's family. Brandy - she's about 16 weeks old and the cutest thing ever. She loved to have her belly scratched and was so happy to meet her extended family. She fell asleep on Dad's and Michael chest. She jumped up on Mom and gave her kisses and then passed out with the rest of us after dinner. She's a cutie. Her big brother Baily is sitting on his Dad's lap. He's very territorial when it comes to Carl.

October 17, 2009

This has been a crazy and sad month but I at least had to document the day!!

We didn't do much . . was getting everything ready for Grandma's funeral and cleaning out her place at Hacienda. I did get a new Kindle and am already on my 2nd book. It's handy to have around, fits in the purse neatly, and was easy on the eyes to read while on the plane flying to and from Utah last week . . . more on that in another post to come!!!

Anyway HAPPY 40th Birthday to me!!!

Whirlwind of a Weekend

Do you ever have one of those months when you feel like you just barely blinked and it is over with? That's how things have been going and with school thrown in the mix it seems like all I do is homework. I get it turned it and then I have to do it all over again. That my friends is why you shouldn't put off school till you're turning 40!!! I'm too old for this crap still!!! (Not that I was ever too young for it either!!)

So Carl's wedding weekend went by way too fast!!

These guys were so excited to go to the beach and make sandcastles. The weather was perfect, except that we forgot towels and beach chairs...oops.

There were a quite a few tears shed when it was time to go. I'm not saying who in this picture cried about having to leave the beach, but it wasn't the scary Aunt in the red shirt.

Sunday was the big Wedding Day. It was another perfect day for Carl & Fran's poolside wedding.

Dad got to officiate the marriage, so it turned out to be a family affair. I mean how many people can say "my Dad married me"? . . . well not like that but you know what I mean.

This is both families together. I was kinda bossy trying to get everyone in one place, but they weren't being cooperative!!! Someone mentioned something about too many people on the stage and seeing themselves on YouTube when the stage collapsed but no major damage was inflicted on the stage.

The 4 Garlick cousins . . . we haven't all been together like this since Grandma's 80th birthday almost 13 years ago. We are all married now and there are 4 great grand kids that have been added. We still look GOOD!!!

SMOKE FROM THE FIRES

I'm glad we don't live closer to this fire with its massive amount of smoke.

It looks like the fire is headed to Mount Wilson. It's weird how it looks like thunder clouds but it is really smoke.

The difference that a long lens makes on your camera . . . see we aren't really that close.

A friend of mine sent these pictures to me. This is a view from Glendale Dodge.

This is a view from Hwy 134 and Glendale Blvd.

WOW What a difference a month makes

The Garden Update

The herbs are getting a little burned - its so hot outside right now. I did harvest a bunch of Rosemary, Chives and Parsley to dry.

My Cilantro didn't do so hot, I need to replace it. I think I cut too much off too soon after I planted it, but there is nothing better then cilantro on pretty much everything.

Check out my Tomatilos that I grew from seeds. I went outside to take these pictures today and actually found that I have real tomatilos growing. Yeah for me!!

Michael says that these onions are beginning to look like aliens. I need to dig some of them out and use them before they goto seed.

Ok, here is the picture that gets me. Just over a month in the ground and look at this corn. We are just a few days away from being ready to pick the corn and eat it. I checked some of the ears last night when I was watering and they are almost there. I'm so excited, I've never been able to grow corn before.

I started these beans from seeds as well and am pleasantly surprised that they grew. I probably won't eat them, I'll save them for Michael, but still I can grow things from seeds. Pretty amazing - my thumb isn't even green. Just a month ago these things were in a tiny pot and I didn't think they would grow.

The peppers are here too. I tried growing these last year in the container and they didn't do so well . . . maybe lack of water who knows. But this year there are peppers on top of peppers in these plants.

Zuchinni looks a little sad, but I have gotten 8 huge ones off of this plant and have two more to pick. I think I'm going to pluck some of the dead leaves off and see if new ones replace them. I'm so tired of making zuchinni bread, but its always soooo good.

I moved the strawberries over to where they would get a little shade in the afternoon and it has seemed to work on sweeting up the strawberries. They are still small and I would like to grow the giant ones, but maybe this plant isn't the right kind. I was hoping to be able to have alot of strawberries to make freezer jam, but I just might have to buy them and make it.

Here are the topsey turvey things that I bought. I finally got a bigger, stronger shepherds hook for them to hang from. The tomato plant didn't seem to get as big growing upside down, but at least there are some tomato's. I didn't think I was going to get any.

Here is the final product of my drying the herbs. I still have a bunch of sage and oregano to dry, but I've been lazy with school starting. I'm off to make some homemade Koren egg rolls. I'll take pictures.

Engagement

Look whose getting married!!!!!
(No it's not Baily the dog)

I got a text message on Tuesday the 4th with this picture saying they were getting ready to take the plunge. I thought they were talking about getting in the river for a nice boat ride or something. Then I get another text with this picture.

I had to do the "Joey" thing and get into the picture to see if it was what I was thinking and it was the right hand..well really the left hand, but you know what I mean. He wouldn't answer his phone for a while, but he finally called back to confirm that they are ENGAGED!!!!

Big Brother is Watching!!!

Or should I say Little Sister is watching!!!

I knew that Thalea, Byron, the boys, and Mom and Dad were all in Jackson Hole last week. I got on the site that has the web cams of the town square and thought I would watch to see if they called and said they were shopping or something fun. I forgot about it and went and did some stuff. Later on in the afternoon I was at the computer and clicked on the web cam again. I got to looking and I saw these people that looked sorta familiar. I called Thalea on the phone and the person I was watching was grabbing for her phone.

Pretty scary if you don't know there are web cams around. Now you have to be conscious about picking your nose or your butt because anybody in the world could be watching you!!! Even Little Sisters in California!!!

Garden and Stuff

I finally remembered to take pictures of my garden. I'm only a week or so late posting them so what you are seeing has now almost doubled in size. The corn husk are beginning to form and I have a couple of cucumbers that have tripled in size and the tomatoes have finally gone from blooms to the real things.

The strawberries are sour, but hopefully they will sweeten up soon and get bigger then the dime size that they are now. I think I need to move them out of the full sun and let them have a little shade during the day. So I had seen these topsy tomato thingies and thought I would give them a try. I didn't get the shepard hooks until a little later in the season that I had planned, but I finally did and wanted to document their growth. It was about 2 weeks in the watering of them that the weight of them proved to be a little too much for the skinny little shepard hooks that I got on sale.

I did get herbs planted in early spring and this is what they look like. I found a web site that shows how to dehydrate them, so the plan this week is to try and do that with the parsley, since I have a train load of it. Next will be the chives and the pineapple sage.

I have harvest 2 zucchini's already and made 4 loaves of bread - since thats the only thing good that comes out of zuccnhini's. Michael asked me why I even planted them if I wasn't going to eat them. He doesn't get how good the bread is and I figure I'm getting my veggies in with the bread!!!

On a side note here is a picture of Summer and Desmond. I finally got a decent picture of them together. He takes such good care of her.
