Last day of the Year - Long Post

I wanted to add some pics for the end of the year that I had thought I might do a post on, but never got around to do them. Most of these are pics that I took or found on facebook of the city or stuff around town. Two of the bridges that we use to always go over and that I had to always go over when I lived in San Pedro are being redone so I thought I would add pictures of the way they were to remember the old bridges. We always called this bridge the singing bridge because when Dad would drive over it, he would snap his fingers at a certain time and the road would start to hum. I always thought the correct name for the bridge was the Henry Ford Bridge. Well if I read it write, the Henry Ford Bridge is actually the railroad bridge that is right next to the Schyler Heim Bridge which is the singing bridge. I love watching movies and seeing this bridge in it and knowing that I have driven over this bridge a million times and have been stuck on it waiting for the draw bridge to come down as well. Now this is the Gerald Desmond bridge. I can remember the first time going over this bridge. I remember Grandpa and Grandma Crook were in town visiting and we all piled into Mom and Dads green wood grain station wagon. It had a rear seat that face the wrong way and Thalea and I were riding back there. I can remember kneeling on my knees (way before seat belts were required) and looking at this bridge and hearing Dad talk to Grandma and Grandpa about it and seeing the top of the bridge from a far and freaking out silently and whispering to Thalea about how were we ever going to get over that bridge. I didn't see a road that connected to the top half circle part of the bridge. I remember we both turned around and sat right in the seat, Thalea held my hand and I know I closed my eyes thinking that somehow the car was going to have to make a huge jump across it. Well what seemed like hours turned out to be seconds and we were on the downside heading towards the port. We had made it because there was a road the whole time. I just couldn't see it through everybody's heads. When I turned 15 I took my drivers training course to get my permit / license and well out of all 4 kids in the car, I drove the freeway from Cerritos all the way to the bottom of the bridge in Wilmington. The teacher even had me stop in the middle of the bridge. I was so scared that the brakes were going to fail and some how we would flip over and over going down that bridge, but again made it through with not a problem and finally after driving this bridge a thousand times going back and forth from San Pedro, bridges no longer freak me out...well it depends on the height and the weather. Gotta love a 360 of Long Beach on a good day you can see all the way to Catalina (just fyi you don't need a passport to go there!!) or you can see all the way to LA and beyond!! When I was little you use to see these missal trails all the time. Now not so much, on a rare occasion you'll see them but it usually means something didn't go right. I remember laying out on Mom and Dads front lawn watching them be blown around by the wind up there. We use to watch the sky writers do their thing as well, but you don't see those guys very often either. These two pictures are late adds to previous post. The rock and the space shuttle. VIP Records, drove past everyday for 4 years going to Poly. Lots of rappers got their start here. I can't believe that its a beauty palor now. With the invention of the ipod and downloading music there is no reason to goto a music store anymore. No more Snoopy's dog house on top of the building. Here's a high school picture of Snoop dog aka Calvin and Willie McGinest. They were sophomores here. I have a few more pics to add but this is super long already, so I will save them for next year!!! Happy New Year everyone!!!!

Christmas Eve 2012

I didn't take many pictures of our Christmas Eve dinner. It was just Mom and Dad, Michael and I this year, but the clam chowder was the best as always and the clam dip, I could have eaten the whole thing by myself.

December 21, 2012

Well then end of the world has come and gone...I guess it really is true!!
Someone just didn't feel like having to finish up a calendar. I guess he figured someone else would step up and keep adding to it. It's even funnier when actual Mayans don't even believe that their calendar is ending and the world is going to end. I did watch this real cool documentary about the Mayans and their relationship to the Hopi Indians. They actually traded between their two civilizations. They walked the 1300 miles to each others land and traded goods. The Hopi's have their own end of the world prophecy rock, but the cool thing is that it actually predicted the invention of the internet. Google it and read about it...pretty smart Indians!!!

Christmas Tamales

Now I'm not one that sticks traditionally to doing tamales only once a year, but it has been awhile since I made them and well I went a little over board with the peppers this time around and almost killed myself and the neighbors tasting it for me to see if it was too spicy. I had to add a little sugar and butter to the mixture which actually turned out pretty good. Only problem is that I'm the only one with the iron stomach to eat them, because they are still pretty spicy!!!

10 Years

I can't believe we have been married now for 10 years and together for 17 years. Wow I can't believe how fast time has flown. Here's a picture from 10 years ago.
Here's us 10 years later up at Signal Mountain this past October in Wyoming. Other than some grey hairs, I think we have both aged well!!!
We went back to the restaurant where HE was suppose to propose to me, but ended up not trusting the waiter to actually bring the ring to me. So he proposed to me at home instead of the "Stinking Rose." It was a good thing we are married because of all the Garlic that place puts on your food...get it the stinking rose? I had prime rib with about 20 cloves of garlic on it as well as garlic calamari and garlic rolls, with garlic mash potatoes. I didn't want to go with the garlic ice cream, so the very berry strawberry cheesecake won out, but I smelled like garlic for the whole weekend!! They had a big sign up for their "Thanksgiving" meal - 400 cloves of Garlic in that Turkey, they didn't say what size the turkey was going to be, but man that's A LOT of garlic in one bird!!!! So Happy 10 year Anniversary Babe...LOVE YA!!!

Weekend in Wyoming!!!

Prepare for picture overload!!! We were suppose to leave Thursday morning at 7:20 am but there was a huge storm that blew in and knocked the power out at the house. Didn't feel real comfortable about leaving in the dark without knowing when power was going to be turned on, but we made it out that afternoon and drove straight to Star Valley that night got there about 10 PM crashed and then started our trip with a visit with Barton, Cottonwood Lake and then headed up to Jackson....pictures.
We didn't see a lot of elk this year. It was still pretty warm and the wolf population isn't helping matters for the elk..that's a whole other story. The one thing I wanted to see is Mormon row, for some reason I thought it was off the beaten path, but its really right there if you know where to look.
Michael's favorite was at two lakes..(I think that's what it was called) Byron and he found a nice big bear print and a fresh kill. We were going to have lunch there but decided against it seeing how we didn't want to become bear lunch.
We went to Oxbow bend and skipped rocks into the river and had a yummy lunch.
We saw lots of Moose and Bison. A couple a little too close but very cool!!!
We headed up to Signal Mountain and Jenny Lake. The worst part of the trip was having to leave to come back home, that and the fact that the next day, Thalea and Byron and the boys got to see a bear hanging out in a tree. We missed it by one day!!!
