Day 90 - Project 365

One of the best things about Easter

I just convinced myself to go spend the 5 bucks on this little bag so that I could have the energy to do my economic homework thats due by midnight. Honestly I don't think its going to help motivate me, but hey its chocolate maybe yesterdays post would be a better motivator.

Day 89 - Project 365

My new favorite dessert!!!

The second one from the left is red velvet cake with white chocolate coated all around it. The crunch of the white chocolate is the ultimate best taste ever. I could eat one of these every couple of hours!!!!

Day 88 - Project 365

My Brother the Farmer

Now if there was just some cows in the pasture to milk, some hay to be raked, irrigation pipes to move and some fireworks to set off around a fire while roasting hotdogs in Aunt Marybell's yard, we would all be happy and content.

Day 87 - Project 365

Spring has Sprung

Front flower bed roses are blooming again after I cut them back. This one is my favorite it's suppose to be a silver rose.

Day 86 - Project 365

More Favorite Easter Decorations

I like the little collection of easter eggs, that I painted. The little basket of eggs and the mailbox goes with the easter village that I haven't started yet.

Day 85 - Project 365

Impingement Syndrome

Ok so I have a name now with whats wrong with my shoulders.

Impingement syndrome is a common condition affecting the shoulder often seen in aging adults. This condition is closely related to shoulder bursitis and rotator cuff tendonitis. These conditions may occur alone or in combination.

In virtually all parts of your body, bones are the innermost structures and are surrounded by muscles. When an injury occurs to the rotator cuff muscles, they respond by swelling. However, because the rotator cuff muscles are surrounded by bone, when they swell, a series of other events occur.

The pressure within the muscles increases, which results in compression and loss of blood flow in the small blood vessels. When the blood flow decreases, the muscle tissue begins to fray like a rope. Motions such as reaching up behind the back and reaching up overhead to put on a coat or blouse, for example, may cause pain.

What Are the Symptoms of Shoulder Impingement Syndrome?

The typical symptoms of impingement syndrome include difficulty reaching up behind the back, pain with overhead use of the arm and weakness of shoulder muscles.

If these muscles are injured for a long period of time, the muscle can actually tear in two, resulting in a rotator cuff tear. This causes significant weakness and may make it difficult for the person to elevate his or her arm. Some people will have rupture of their biceps muscle as part of this continuing impingement process.

How Is Impingement Syndrome Diagnosed?

Diagnosis begins with a medical history and physical examination by your doctor. X-rays will be taken to rule out arthritis and may show changes in the bone that indicate injury of the muscle. Bone spurs or changes in the normal contour of the bone may be present. Impingement syndrome may be confirmed when an injection of a small amount of an anesthetic into the space under one of the shoulder bones relieves pain.

How Is Shoulder Impingement Syndrome Treated?

It is important to understand that the condition and not just the symptoms require treatment. Oral anti-inflammatory medications ?such as aspirin, naproxen or ibuprofen, remain the most common treatment for this condition.

You must consistently take the medication for nearly eight weeks for it to be effective. Taking anti-inflammatory medications for a short period of time may treat the symptom of pain, but it will not treat the underlying problem and symptoms will come back. There is no specific medication for this condition and response to any given medication differs from person to person. If one anti-inflammatory medication does not help within 10 to 14 days, then another one will be given until one that provides relief is found.

In addition to taking medications, daily stretching in a warm shower will help. Work to reach your thumb up and behind your back. Avoid repetitive activities with your injured arm, particularly where the elbow would move above shoulder level. Avoid vacuuming, painting, raking leaves and washing the car.

If you have persistent symptoms, despite the use of oral anti-inflammatory medications, your doctor may consider a cortisone-type injection. Cortisone is a potent anti-inflammatory medication, which should be used only when necessary because it can result in weakening of muscles and tendons.

If symptoms persist or if significant weakness is present, then your doctor may perform an MRI or arthrogram to rule out a rotator cuff tear. If the cuff is torn, surgery may be necessary to repair it.

The vast majority of people who have impingement syndrome are successfully treated with medication, stretching exercises and temporary avoidance of repetitive overhead activity until the condition settles down.

So I go back to the Doctor in 3 weeks and he decides if I have to have surgery, my tendon is being grated down like what happens when you use a cheese grater. So surgery may be the only option to stop the grating.

Day 84 - Project 365

Another favorite Easter decoration

I have a whole easter village and this is the only piece that I have finished, but it is one of my favorite. I think it would be cool to have a tree / bird house like this, it reminds me of something that would be in Pooh's forest.

Day 83 - Project 365

Easter Decorations

I love Easter and Spring time, these are some of my favorite holiday bears that I've painted.

I love putting out my bears for the holidays, I need to finish up the other ones that have been sitting on the shelf for years waiting to be painted.

Day 82 - Project 365

I Did it!!

Here's the strawberry pot, with some strawberries already growing and lots of blooms too.

Hopefully I won't kill them for lack of water.

Here's the cilantro and the basil, hopefully they will start to grow tall and I can start enjoying them in my food!!!

Monday, March 22, 2010

Day 81 - Project 365

Time to plant the garden

I got the Basil and the Cilantro and some strawberries, now just to make sure I plant them before I kill them. Lets see tomorrow if I actually plant them today!!!

Day 79 - Project 365

SOUNDS OF FREEDOM

I don't know if this is the right planes that have been flying over the house. But the past couple of weeks instead of two of them there have been four that have been taking off. It is super loud and they fly too fast to take a picture of them and they never seem to fly in the same direction each weekend so this picture will have to do. I use to think that the sound was annoying especially if I was trying to nap, but Mom and Dad made a comment one time when they were flying over the house, thats the sound of freedom flying over...so fly boys fly... make all the noise you want, I won't complain one bit about it, but today when I can see your landing gear still down and the vapors around your plane, your flying pretty low, so please just grab that stick and pull up, you were freaking me out a little!!!

Day 78 - Project 365

SHHHHH!!

Don't tell anybody that we are brothers and that we like each other.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Day 77 - Project 365

Spring really??

It's been in the high 80's this week, it's like it went from winter to summer in one day. I'm wishing for this rain again. I'm not ready for summer to be here, come on June gloom come early and stay late!!!

Day 76 - Project 365

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY

and nope I didn't wear any green today!!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Day 75 - Project 365

EARTHQUAKE

So the 4.4 Pico Rivera earthquake hit this morning at 4:04am. I woke up about 4:05am. I knew something had happened, but wasn't quite sure what it was. Some of the cats were still running around but Juliet and Summer were snoring. (I guess the older the animal the more likely they are to sleep through them) Michael was semi sleeping then the news came on with breaking news about the earthquake so then I laid awake for the next 2 1/2 hours listening to the same reports over and over again about if you felt the earthquake.

Monday, March 15, 2010

Day 74 - Project 365

Physical Therapy

So far the only thing I'm enjoying about physical therapy is the massages and the ultra sound that they did yesterday on both shoulders.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

Day 73 - Project 365

MID TERMS

I wish that this is what my mid-term looked like instead of the 25 essays I had to write about marine biology and earthquakes. I'm probably jinxing myself on earthquakes.

Day 72 - Project 365

Photo shot

Juliet was loving being the center of attention this morning.

Friday, March 12, 2010

Day 71 - Project 365

Sometimes I think she sees things that we can't see.

She didn't even care that I was standing there taking her picture, she was just looking at whatever it was she was seeing. As long as it isn't a spider, I'm cool with it.

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Day 70 - Project 365

Here is the same view through the bathroom window just with the fence up.

This is the new gate. Thought I might paint it but it looks good and blends in with the neighbors side and besides being lazy I think its going to stay natural. Its kinda nice to have a fence that you don't have to manhandle to open and close!!

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Day 69 - Project 365

New Fence

Ok so this isn't the greatest picture, I had to sneak and take it through the bathroom window, I didn't want all the workers to know that I was taking a picture of the fence that they are putting up. It should be a nice fence and I'll take a picture of the new gate once it's done too.

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

Day 68 - Project 365

Blanket tents aren't just for kids

Juliet is the happiest when she can bury herself under something.

Now if only the other kids won't mess it up for her.

Monday, March 8, 2010

Day 67 - Project 365

What a life!!

Who could ask for anything more? Breakfast in bed on a heating blanket why move away from the food when you can sleep right next to it.

King size bed and she hogs most of it, including the covers!!

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Day 66 - Project 365

A little Rain

Uncle Howard and Aunt Margaret gave this plant to Grams. I thought I had killed it because it's on the side of the house that I always forget to water. So with all this rain this winter looked what survived.

/>
Now just to remember to water it.

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Day 65 - Project 365

Why???

This is why I'm not getting my homework done. I have visitors on my desk hindering my progress; of course it's not that I've procrastinated any of it AT ALL!

Friday, March 5, 2010

Day 64 - Project 365

Ok here it is!!!

They didn't do too bad of a job trimming it up. Some other trees on the block weren't as lucky, they got really chopped. I still don't know how some little branches ended up on the roof but hey it was free and the city didn't do too bad of a job.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Day 63 - Project 365

See this Tree?

This is the tree out in front of my house. My Grandparents house. This is the tree that my parents would leave love notes for each other when Mom would walk by the house on her way to catch the bus to down town LA for work.

Wait till you see tomorrows picture.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Day 62 - Project 365

Mr. Squirrel is back

I thought this little guy might have been eaten by the coyotes in the neighborhood. Turns out he's ok. Maybe he's been holed up eating away all the nuts and berries he squirreled away for the winter.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Day 61 - Project 365

TENDONITIS AND BURSITIS is the official diagnosis of the MRI I had done last week. See what happens after you turn 40. Closing windows that are too tall for me and probably going a little crazy on the Wii aren't the best things for a 40 year old to be doing.

Shoulder Tendonitis is sort of simply, redness of the tendons in the shoulder, typically caused by wear and something you are way more susceptible to as you age. It seems usually, but not solely, in the over 40s and is a redness of the tendons in the rotator cuff.

The rotator cuff is a grouping of 4 muscles that help to stabilise the shoulder joint, pulling the ball at the head of the humerus ( higher arm bone ) into the socket of the shoulder joint. Without these muscles the shoulder would dislocate extremely simply as it is made from an intensely shallow ball and socket joint.

These 4 muscles all run from the scapula ( shoulder blade ) to the humerus running round the joint to form a cuff of muscle, thus the name. They’re tiny but crucial muscles that hold the joint in place as we reach up or out, lift or throw anything. They’re potentially the most neglected muscles in the body when it comes to formal exercise and as we get older they weaken.

Changes in our posture as we grow older may result in these muscles getting pinched or impinged by bone, leading to the wear that can end up in shoulder tendonitis. This is a discomforting condition leading to kindliness whenever we make sure movements, customarily reaching up or out or reaching behind us.

What Is Bursitis?
Wherever your bones, tendons, and ligaments move against each other, particularly near joints, the points of contact are cushioned by small fluid-filled sacs called bursae. By reducing friction, each of the more than 150 bursae in your body helps the joints operate smoothly through the full range of natural movement. But when a bursa becomes irritated and swollen, it's called bursitis -- or inflammation of the bursa.

What Causes Bursitis?
When a joint is overused or injured suddenly, or when it remains under pressure for a long time, a nearby bursa can become inflamed. The sac fills with excess fluid, causing pressure on surrounding tissue. The immediate signal is pain, often accompanied by inflammation, swelling, and tenderness in the area. This is different from tendinitis, which is inflammation or irritation in the cord attaching muscle to bone, called a tendon.
Age plays a role in bursitis, and one of the most common places it strikes is in the shoulder, which has the greatest range of motion of all the body's major joints. The pain is generally felt along the outside top of the shoulder. The discomfort of bursitis tends to be most severe after a night's sleep and will typically subside somewhat with normal activity. Other places that are prone to bursitis are the elbows, hips, knees, and the base of the thumb.
Bursitis is associated with strenuous activity, particularly among the following types of people:
Manual workers. Heavy lifting, repetitive motion, or working for extended periods can strain the joints and bring on a bursitis attack.
Athletes. They may get bursitis after running, throwing, or jumping, or from making aggressive arm swings in tennis, baseball, and even bowling.
Sedentary people. If they push their bodies past reasonable limits, they risk bursitis.

Day 60 - Project 365

Storm is moving in Again

Suppose to rain again tomorrow, they say the storm doesn't have much rain in it, but it was still a little chilly out.
