Side note: the news today had a story about a guy that got bit by a snake on the hand as he was trying to shoo a rattle snake away from his family while they were visiting a grave site at Rose Hills, which happens to be on the other side of the mountain were Carl and Francine live. I don't think I'll be hiking or wandering around there till next winter when they are all sleeping.

LOTS OF WICKEDLY TULIPS
So after a wickedly fun Sunday and a fairly busy Monday morning/afternoon spent shopping, we all met up back at Thalea's house to go to the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point. I like tulips - they definitely mean springtime. But in California you just don't see them growing anywhere other then the grocery stores and those ones are the expensive kind. Evidently they need COLD weather to grow in and it's just not cold enough for them to grow in LB unless they live in your refrigerator. Well I have enough problems with things growing in my refrigerator that I don't know about let alone trying to remember that I might have tulips in there, so I just don't see tulips growing in my flower beds in the all too near future. It was amazing to see 250,000 tulips. Here I am trying to pose like the statue. Thalea was afraid I was going to fall in the water.
They have a really fun children's area. Here I am with Mason and Sam posing with the bear. The bear was a little shaky about the boys being on him, so I was holding both of them tight.
They have this really cool water fall area. I blogged stalked Deb's or Sandie's and they said it was the world's largest man-made falls. Who knew???
Here is Mason with me in the tulips - he tells me I'm his favorite auntie! I believe him too!
Poor Sam was riding in the stroller the whole time and he wanted out to touch the flowers. So again I'm the cool aunt who stole him from his stroller and let him touch!!!
I saw this fountain /waterfall thing . . . ummm - not sure what to call it, but it's definitely cool. We hurried and took pictures. There was a bride and groom that weren't getting married till June but wanted to get wedding pictures with the tulips.
Here's a nice picture of Thalea and I, or to be grammatically correct, me and Thalea. Man you could never tell that in a couple of months we will both be in our 40's. Yes - I'll still always be younger and prettier, but I'll give her smarter!!! Love ya Sis!!!
They have this really big pond with a TON of Koi fish in it. I was busy taking pictures before my battery died so I was the last of our group on the pier thingy. Being the COOL Auntie . . . I happened to have one quarter in my pocket - not sure how or why it was there. But it was enough to buy a handful of fish food so Mason could feed the fish!!!
I'm laughing or smiling here because my life is being threatened if I dropped Mason into the pond. I personally think he would have had a blast swimming with all the fish, but I don't think his parents would have been happy about that . . . and it was a little chilly, so I held him tight.
One last shot of me with Thalea and the boys.
So Sam's 1st birthday was going to be a week after I left so I got to do a little early celebrating with him. He kinda liked me or at least thought I was pretty cool. Mason will have to do a little talking me up to him, but he can't help liking his cool but silly Auntie.

WICKED!!!
We were off to see the wizard . . . oops I mean WICKED! It was super fantastical! Merry Christmas Thalea. I loved participating in the Christmas present I got you!
After the show, we went and had an amazing dinner at "The Melting Pot"- delicious! But we forgot to take a picture at the restaraunt. Take my word for it - the dessert was the best!Monday, April 6, 2009
Obama's visit to Long Beach
Ok, so I'm not a fan - but still how many people can say that Air Force I has flown over your house. I don't even remember what day it was last month that he was here. All I know is that I watched him land on TV and talked to Carl that afternoon. Carl was bummed that he had to drive to Torrance instead of fly his helicopter that day because all flights were grounded due to the President flying in. It wasn't until after I talked to Carl that I had realized what a quiet afternoon it had been with no airplanes flying over head. It's amazing how you can tune them out after a life time of hearing them. So anyway I made a mental note that it would be cool to take a picture of Air Force I flying over the house when Obama left Long Beach. So I watched the news all afternoon and heard that he was suppose to leave Long Beach at 6:00 PM. It had been quiet for awhile with no planes flying over the house again - when I heard a loud noise outside. I could see the helicopters heading to the airport after Obama's Leno appearance. I went inside saw the news, got the camera with the long lens and sat out on the front porch like the big geek that I am and waited and waited and waited and this is what I got a picture of!!!

Who knew Obama flew Jet Blue!!! Ok - so evidently I had gone inside for one second too long and missed the WHOLE THING!! I never heard it either. So while I was waiting I was able to get some cool pics of the birds hanging at the bird feeder. So instead of Presidental planes you get wild birds!!! ENJOY!!

MICHAEL'S BIRTHDAY
FEBRUARY 18
35 YEARS OLD!!!

So Michael's birthday was like a month ago almost and I'm just getting around to downloading the pictures off the camera. (I'm such the good wife!!) He had two weekends of birthday treatment since his birthday was in the middle of the week. On his actual birthday day I made this scrumptuous dinner, and since we weren't having anything sweet, I put the candles in the steak for him to make his birthday wish.

HAPPY 35!!!

WHY OH WHY DO I THINK THIS IS SO FUNNY!!!
Killer Chili
I went grocery shopping recently while not being altogether sure that course of action was a wise one. You see, the previous evening I had prepared and consumed a massive quantity of my patented 'you're definitely going to $h!t yourself' chili. Tasty stuff, albeit hot to the point of being painful, which comes with a written guarantee from me that if you eat it, the next day both of your butt cheeks WILL fall off.
Here's the thing. I had awakened that morning, and even after two cups of coffee (and all of you know what I mean) nothing happened. No 'Watson's Movement 2'. Despite habanera peppers swimming their way through my intestinal tract, I was unable to create the usual morning symphony referred to by my next door neighbors as 'thunder and lightning'.
Knowing that a time of reckoning HAD to come, yet not sure of just when, I bravely set off for the market, a local Wal-Mart grocery store that I often haunt in search of tasty tidbits.
Upon entering the store at first all seemed normal. I selected a cart and began pushing it about dropping items in for purchase. It wasn't until I was at the opposite end of the store from the restrooms that the pain hit me.
Oh, don't look at me like you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm referring to that 'Uh, Oh, gotta go' pain that always seems to hit us at the wrong time. The thing is, this pain was different.
The habaneras in the chili from the night before were staging a revolt. In a mad rush for freedom they bullied their way through the small intestines, forcing their way into the large intestines, and before I could take one step in the direction of the restrooms which would bring sweet relief, it happened. The peppers fired a warning shot.
There I stood, alone in the spice and baking aisle, suddenly enveloped in a noxious cloud the likes of which has never before been recorded. I was afraid to move for fear that more of this vile odor might escape me. Slowly, oh so slowly, the pressure seemed to leave the lower part of my body, and I began to move up the aisle and out of it, just as an elderly woman turned into it.
I don't know what made me do it, but I stopped to see what her reaction would be to the malodorous effluvium that refused to dissipate. Have you ever been torn in two different directions emotionally? Here's what I mean, and I'm sure some of you at least will be able to relate.
I could've warned that poor woman but didn't. I simply watched as she walked into an invisible, and apparently indestructible, wall of odor so terrible that all she could do before gathering her senses and running, was to stand there blinking and waving her arms about her head as though trying to ward off angry bees. This, of course, made me feel terrible, but then made me laugh. .........BIG mistake!!!!!
Here's the thing. When you laugh, it's hard to keep things 'clamped down', if you know what I mean. With each new guffaw an explosive issue burst forth from my nether region. Some were so loud and echoing that I was later told a few folks in other aisles had ducked, fearing that someone was robbing the store and firing off a shotgun.
Suddenly things were no longer funny. 'It' was coming, and I raced off through the store towards the restrooms, laying down a cloud the whole way, praying that I'd make it before the grand mal assplosion took place.
Luck was on my side. Just in the nick of time I got to the john, began the inevitable 'Oh my God', floating above the toilet seat because my ass is burning SO BAD, purging. One poor fellow walked in while I was in the middle of what is the true meaning of 'Shock and Awe' . He made a gagging sound, and disgustedly said, 'Sonofabitch!', then quickly left.
Once finished I left the restroom, reacquired my partially filled cart intending to carry on with my shopping when a store employee approached me and said, 'Sir, you might want to step outside for a few minutes. It appears some prankster set off a stink bomb in the store. The manager is going to run the vent fans on high for a minute or two which ought to take care of the problem.'
That of course set me off again, causing residual gases to escape me. The employee took one sniff, jumped back pulling his shirt up to cover his nose and, pointing at me in an accusing manner shouted, 'IT'S YOU!', then ran off returning moments later with the manager. I was unceremoniously escorted from the premises and asked none too kindly not to return.
Home again without having shopped, I realized that there was nothing to eat but leftover chili, so I consumed two more bowls. The next day I went to shop at Albertson's. I can't say anymore about that because we are in court over the whole matter. Bastards claim they're going to have to repaint the store..
Why do I picture my family including Grandpa's sitting around the table listening to my brother tell that story and someone having to run to the bathroom or someone blowing milk out their nose???

Stormy Saturday

OK, so I woke up this morning to the nice, peaceful sound of rain hitting the roof. WRONG!!! I was awakened to the sound of the world ending, cats scrambling to get under the bed and trying to figure out why this "earthquake" we were having was so loud. In the 5 seconds or so that this noice lasted (which seemed like FOREVER) it's amazing how many things can go through your head. What - you are asking - was that incredible noise? THUNDER people, yes thunder. It's not like I've never heard it before, yes it has been a little while, but man it was LOUD and close. Over the next 10 mins or so it seemed like it was right over our house. Lightening lit up the bedroom and I didn't have the chance to get the "Ho" out of "Holy" out before the thunder cracked, so you know it was really close. It seemed like Heavenly Father was cracking the whip or something right over the house, maybe trying to get my butt out of bed or something...didn't work. I went back to bed after I fed Summer and took her for her walk - she, by the way, slept thru all the thunder.
Just thought I would share my morning. Of course there was NO WAY I was going outside so the only picture of the storm is the one I stole from the LB Press Telegram.
