Day 104 - Project 365

Wednesday night Relief Society activity.

Tonight was working and talking about using your emergency food and knowing how to use it in an emergency. Everyone talks about wheat and having a supply of wheat, but did you know that if your body isn't use to eating wheat your going to have an emergency of your own when you start eating it and then thats not going to be a good thing. So I made wheat chili for the dinner. Pictures and recipe follows

6 cups water 2 Tbls brown sugar
3 cups wheat 1 Tbls chili powder
6 Beef Bouillon cubes 1 tsp Italian Herbs
1 Large can tomato juice 1 tsp cumin
1 clove of garlic, minced 1/4 tsp lemon pepper
1 cup celery, sliced (You can use 1 package of Lawry's
1 onion diced Chili Mix instead of the above
1 pound ground beef seasonings.)
1 large can diced tomatoes

Dissolve bouillon cubes in water. Soak the wheat in the water and bouillon overnight. Next day, cook the wheat until it is soft, about 1 hour. Brown beef, onion and celery in oil. Sprinkle with a little season salt. Add garlic, tomato juice, diced tomatoes, and seasonings (or 1 package of chili mix). Add wheat and the water it is in. Simmer for about 1/2 hour. Can serve with corn chips, cheese, and chopped green onions. (I added cilantro..but thats just me!!)

It turned out pretty well and you would never know that there was wheat in the chili.
